Tapestries & Textiles Retreat

We are thrilled to invite you to an exclusive three-night, four-day retreat at Mapperton House, celebrating the artistry and heritage of tapestries, local textiles, and craftsmanship.

Limited to just 12 guests and with a choice to stay in either Mapperton House or one of the Estate Cottages, this unique and specifically curated retreat will take place from April 30th to May 3rd, 2026.

This special experience will coincide with the unveiling of our restored 18th-century Peacock Tapestry—a project made possible thanks to so many wonderful supporters.

                                   

 

By booking a place on this exclusive Tapestries & Textiles Retreat, you will be supporting the conservation and restoration of this important part of England’s heritage, particularly in respect of Mapperton’s tapestries, 18th century dresses and other notible and historic textiles. 

Planned Itinerary

  • Guided tours of Mapperton House & Gardens.
  • Yoga with Julie Montagu.
  • Celebratory unveiling of the Peacock Tapestry with a special talk by the conservator.
  • Embroidery Workshop under the expert guideance of The Royal School of Needlework’s Tutor, Deborah Wilding. The design will be chosen exclusively for this Retreat from one of Mapperton’s 18th century dresses.
  • A visit to Britain’s only surviving Victorian Twineworks demonstrating the significance of the textile industry to Dorset and Somerset.
  • Nature safari through Mapperton Wildlands.
  • Private dinner as guests of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, Luke and Julie Montagu.

2026 Dates & Pricing

Guests will arrive at Mapperton on Thursday April 30th and depart on Sunday 3rd May. The Estate is open to the public from April to September and while the grounds will be open to the public on the Thursday and Sunday, the House will be exclusive to our guests during this Retreat. The Embroidery Workshop will take place in the Coach House and all meals will be served in Mapperton’s grand Dining Room.

  • Prices start from £2,995* for a 3-night stay in one of the Cottages, or from £4,100* in the Main House

* price is per person, based on two people sharing. There is a single person supplement and Heritage Room supplement, depending on choice of room.
